Recently, I had the chance to go on a photo walk with Jackson Scott Media, a friend and fellow photographer I met through a networking event last year. We explored the area around Seaholm Power Plant and the library in downtown Austin, capturing the city’s charm on film. There’s something nostalgic and unique about film photography that digital just can’t replicate. It forces you to slow down, savor each moment, and put more thought into every shot—and that made it the perfect medium for capturing Austin’s vibrant streets on a cloudy day downtown.

Why Film Photography?

Film photography has an authenticity that digital can’t quite match. Each frame carries a sense of nostalgia and warmth, making every click of the shutter meaningful. Shooting on film encourages a slower pace and greater intentionality, which I found brought out the best in each scene. As we wandered through downtown streets and along the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge, the magic of film turned everyday Austin moments into timeless captures.

Creative Collaboration in Photography

Jackson and I each have our own unique photography styles, and this photo walk allowed us to learn from each other’s perspectives. Collaborating with another photographer can be incredibly refreshing; it pushes you to try new angles, experiment with light, and see places that may be ordinary with fresh eyes. Our walk through Austin reminded me of the value of connecting with other creatives, especially in a city as inspiring as this one.
